OCTAVE PREMIUM LAPHROAIG 2004 17 YO 70 CL
This is a 17 year old Laphroaig distilled in 2004. Duncan Taylor moved the whisky into a small sherry octave cask for a nine month finishing period. These small casks (around 60 litres) have a big impact on flavour. And being a small cask, it only produced 85 bottles of this very exclusive whisky.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Big, punchy sherry notes. Antique wax polished mahogany wood furniture. A touch of salty sea air. Some fruity notes underneath, strawberries dipped in chocolate, pears studded with cloves poached in red wine.
Palate: Initially soft and gentle, but then everything kicks off with a bang. Pipe smoke, rich sherry, lashings of fruit, sun-dried Muscat grapes, dark plums. Very concentrated and rich, oily on the palate.
Finish: Great length. The rich fruity sweetness continues. The peat fades away gently. Very rich and intense. A cracker of a cask.
