This whisky is the bottling of hogshead sherry cask n°2122, containing a 20ppm malt and peated whisky distilled in 2017 to be bottled in 251 bottles in 2023. The slightly larger Hogshead sherry casks are known for their extended maturation capacity and characteristic aromatic imprint inherited from previously aged Andalusian wines.
This Mars Whisky single cask was distilled and filled into hogshead sherry cask n°2122 at the Shinshu distillery, located at an altitude of 798 meters at the foot of Mount Kisokomagatake, in the Central Alps of Nagano Prefecture. Then, for ageing, the cask was transferred to Yakushima, a Japanese island listed as a World Natural Heritage Site, where the Yakushima Aging Cellar is located. The unique environment, characterized by its tropical climate, rugged mountains and abundant water reserves, is ideal for whisky ageing.
